Invest in love

It's imposible to describe the panic that comes over you when you're surgeon and your page sounds off in the middle of the night.

Your heart starts to run, your mind frezees, your fingers go down. You are invested; there's someone's mum, someone's dad, someone's kid, and now it's on you. Because that someone's life is now in your hands.

As surgeons we are always invested in our patients, but when your patient is a child, you are not just invested. You are responsible, responsible for whether or not a child survives; have a future; and that's enough to terrify anyone.

They say, the bigger you're invested, the bigger you're returned. But you have to be ready to take a chance. You have to understand that you might lose it all. But if you take that chance, if you're interested wildly... the final result may surprise you.

Es imposible describir el pánico que siente un cirujano cuando tu busca suena en medio de la noche.

Tu corazón comienza a acelerarse, tu mente se congela, los dedos se entumecen... Estás involucrado. Es la madre de alguien, el padre, el hijo... y ahora dependen de ti. Porque la vida de ése alguien está ahora en tus manos.

Como cirujanos, siempre estamos involucrados con nuestros pacientes pero cuando tu paciente es un niño, no solo estás involucrado; además eres responsable. Responsable de la supervivencia o no de ese niño, que tenga un futuro, y eso es suficiente para aterrorizar a cualquiera.

Dicen que cuanto más te involucras, más recibes a cambio. Pero tienes que estar dispuesto a arriesgarte, debes comprender que puedes perderlo todo. No obstante, si es coges esa oportunidad, si te involucras de verdad, con sabiduría, el resultado puede llegar a sorprenderte.
